Will I Gain Weight If I Eat After 9pm?
There is currently no research that states eating at a certain hour of night leads to more weight gain. Weight gain and weight loss are based on the amount of calories you consume and burn. Late night eating is usually mindless and therefore it is a risky time to eat. If you're burning more calories throughout the day than you are consuming, you will still lose weight, no matter what time of day or night they're consumed.
Where Did This Myth Come From?
Late night eating is usually done binging, sitting in front of the TV. The amount of calories consumed associated with the late night eating is what lead to this myth. If you eat a healthy snack before bed, this will not make you gain weight, as long as you count it within your daily calories.
So Should I Eat Before Bed?
The reason to not eat a large meal before bed has more to do with sleep quality than weight management. If you did not have time to eat dinner and you want to head to sleep, you can eat. Starving yourself leads to more weight management problems, it would be healthier to have your dinner. It is recommended to not eat after dinner because it is easy to overdo it, and eat mindlessly. So if you are trying to lose weight, eat your meals and a few healthy snacks and be mindful.
